Cyclones square off with tough competition at Warriors Path GC

The Elizabethton Cyclone golf team traveled to Kingsport on Thursday to participate in a match with Dobyns-Bennett, Tennessee High, and West Ridge.

Coach Zach Ensor’s boy’s team managed to work its way through the tough field for a third-place showing on the afternoon as Caleb Tipton continued his early-season hot start by carding a nine-hole round of 37 to lead the Cyclones.

The Cyclones also received a round of 41 from Luke Campbell and 43’s by Jacob Williams and Alex Gouge. Dalton Sharp (50) was the other boy’s competitor in the match.

West Ridge’s Seth Robinette took medalist in the match as the Wolves golfer shot a solid 35 on the afternoon leading his team to a second-place finish with a team total of 151, two shots off the lead. Others accounting in the scoring for West Ridge were Caleb Royston (37), Parker Leming (39), and Grayson Manis (40).

Dobyns-Bennett claimed the team title with a low round of 149 for the day. John Helpinstine shot a blistering 34 to pace the Indians to the victory. Two other Indians broke 40 for the round as Sam Barbour carded a round of 36 and Evan Timbes finished with a 39.

Ethan Lawson’s 40 closed out the team scoring for D-B.

Tennessee High was led by Alex Jones who fired a 39 on the afternoon. Cooper Terry (41), Tripp Lively (43), and Chandler Myers (44) made up the Vikings team score of 167.

In girls’ action, the Lady Cyclones had to sit back and watch the neck-and-neck race between the Lady Indians and the Lady Wolves with Dobyns-Bennett narrowly sliding by West Ridge by one stroke as D-B recorded a two-player team score of 87 to West Ridge’s 88.

Elizabethton finished third in the three-way match by firing a team total of 100.

For the Lady Cyclones, Gabby Miller and Hannah McDonnell each carded a 50 to make up the team score with Ashlynn Guy three strokes off with a 53.

Dobyns-Bennett was led to the win by McKenzie Hauk’s 39 with Samia Izallen and Alyssa Colhoun each shooting identical rounds of 48.

The Lady Wolves were paced by a 39 from Kirstyn Moore. Arabella Laughlin topped off the team total with a 49. Yssabel Thompson closed out West Ridge’s scoring with a 52.
