Lady Warriors fall to Lady ‘Horns in volleyball action

HAPPY VALLEY – Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you just can’t get the ball to bounce the way you would like.
The Happy Valley Lady Warriors must have been feeling that way on Tuesday evening inside Charlie Bayless Gymnasium as the visiting Johnson County Lady Longhorns whitewashed the home team in both of their matches winning in JV play 2-0 and also shutting out the Lady Warriors in the nightcap, 3-0, in volleyball play.
With the junior varsity squads taking the floor to open the contest, the Lady Longhorns simply capitalized on what Happy Valley was willing to give in taking a 25-2 and 25-13 win in straight sets.
If there was one glaring issue that the JV Lady Warriors couldn’t overcome, it had to be the fact that several balls, 16 to be exact, had found their way to the floor without the Lady Warriors getting a hand on the ball as a communication letdown appeared to be the culprit.
Johnson County meanwhile just did the A,B, C’s of basic volleyball, and that was getting the serve across and keeping the volleyball going across the nets to the opposing side in easily winning the first set 25-2.
The Lady Warrior JV did a better job in the second set as the nerves may have finally worn off to play some decent volleyball including a couple of long rallies in the process.
At one point in the second set, the Lady Warriors trailed only by two points before the Lady ‘Horns made a run to put the set and match away winning, 25-13.
In varsity play, the Lady Warriors fell 25-7, 25-6, and 25-17 to drop the 3-0 decision to the visitors from Mountain City.
Much like their JV counterparts, the Lady Warriors varsity just seemed to not be able to get comfortable through the first two sets before finally settling down in the third set.
Struggling to return the Lady ‘Horn serve continued to be a problem throughout as several BBs were sent across the net that Happy Valley just couldn’t get a good hand on to return back to the opposing side.
The result was the first two sets being lopsided defeats in quick fashion for Johnson County.
Happy Valley final was able to get some fire under them as they came out for the third set and played some inspired volleyball keeping the set close throughout until the Lady ‘Horns reached their 20th point of the set and from there Johnson County stepped up to close out the set.
Alexis Smith had a solid all-around game for the Lady Warriors. Other Happy Valley players that stood out on the night included Brooklyn Lingerfelt, Reagan Street, Madison Lingerfelt, and Laura Rice.
