East in control from start to finish in win over Lady Cyclones

If there is a sport that thrives year in and year out at Sullivan East High School, it has to be volleyball as the Lady Patriots are always at the top of the heap in the conference each season.
The Lady Patriots paid a visit to John Treadway Gym on Tuesday night where the Lady Cyclones were hoping to pull off an early-season victory over the visitors from Bluff City however that wouldn’t be the case as the Lady Patriots took three straight sets to win 3-0 over Elizabethton.
In the first set, the Lady Patriots took advantage of what the Lady Cyclones were willing to give to earn a 25-18 win.
As the match progressed the Lady Cyclones found themselves allowing balls to hit the floor due to communication errors as well as being their own worst enemy as they made unforced errors on serves and set up some easy kills at the net for the Lady Patriots with returns that were made picture-perfect for East to slam back in the face of the Lady Cyclones.
Elizabethton dropped the next two sets 25-15 and 25-14.
Statistically, the Lady Cyclones were led defensively by Makiah Williams and Grace Martin who collected 12 defensive digs each while Jacyi Bowers also reached double figures with 11.
Cheyenne Poiroux and Mattie Davis chipped in with nine defensive digs respectively.
Williams also led in the kills category as she put away six for the match. Bowers and Poiroux each contributed with three apiece.
On the serve, Davis recorded two aces while Grace Martin added one.
With the loss, the Lady Cyclones dropped to 4-5 on the young season.
The Lady Cyclone junior varsity also fell to East 2-1 after splitting the first two sets with some great rallies filling both sets. Needing a decisive third set to see who could make it to 15 first, the Lady Patriots opened up with the serve and were able to maintain their lead throughout giving them the win.
