The Elizabethton Cyclones and Dobyns-Bennett Indians may be strangers when it comes to Friday Night Lights but one can always count on the two teams scheduling each other on the junior varsity slate.

On Monday evening at Citizens Bank Stadium, the two teams met for the first time in 2021 as the Indians came out and dominated the contest from start to finish in taking a 35-7 win over the JV Cyclones.

The Indians jumped out front 21-0 by the end of the first half and never looked back in taking the victory.

Elizabethton’s only positive notes offensively came in the fourth quarter when the offense finally started to click behind the running of Kaleb Holzer.

Holzer accounted for the only Cyclone score of the contest in the final quarter after the Indians initially had buried the Cyclones deep at their own one-yard line.

On the first play from scrimmage, Holzer broke out to the visitor’s sideline and outran the Indian defense 99-yards to pay dirt. Caleb Campbell’s point-after attempt split the uprights to put seven on the board for EHS.

It was too little too late for Elizabethton as a running clock had eaten up a portion of the third quarter and most of the fourth until the Cyclones score with under a minute to play.

The loss left the Cyclone JV winless so far in 2021 however the main purpose of the JV season is to allow for depth to be built by getting players time on the field.

Junior Varsity action is set to resume on Monday, September 6th when Greeneville is scheduled to visit Citizens Bank Stadium at noon.
