Wanda Gearldine Whitehead Arney, 83, Hampton, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, and born in Roan Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Dayton and Mollie Ingram Whitehead.
Wanda was a graduate of Cloudland High School and attended East Tennessee State College. She was employed as a CNA at Hillview Health Center for 30 years. Wanda was an avid UT Sports Fan, especially football. She had season tickets for over 45 years.
Wanda loved family gatherings, going to Daytona Beach and shopping. She was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Byrl, Brady (BL), Lawrence, Gene, Vernon and Darrell Whitehead, and five sisters, Lola Butler, Voretta Hill, Ruth Hill, Peggy Whitehead and Infant Joyce Elizabeth Whitehead.
Although she never had any children of her own, she was a mother to many.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by a special friend and companion, Saint.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 10, at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the doctors and staff of ICU, Johnson City Medical Center.
