Darris Woodby, 68, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was the son of the late William Warren Woodby and Della Lee Lyons. He was an employee of General Shale and a visitor of Marbleton Freewill Baptist Church. Darris loved his family and had a lot of great friends at work and outside of work. He enjoyed carving wood, rock hounding and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Ronel Dean Driscoll and Terry Woodby; great-nephew, Jonathan Woodby; and niece, Contessa Besaw.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ivy Woodby, of the home; two daughters, Belinda Clary and husband Paul of Elizabethton and Della Williams and husband Kelly of Morristown; son, Mark Woodby and wife Amber of Johnson City; two granddaughters, Alexandria Woodby and Piper Anderson; grandson, Adam Anderson; honorary grandchildren, Gabe Brookes, Jeramiah Nichols, Sara Nichols, Angel Richardson and Kristina Davis; brother, Marion Woodby and wife Jean of West Virginia; and four sisters, Eva Tipton and husband Jim of Greeneville, Darla Ripley and husband Bob of Pennsylvania, Teresa Balderas of Johnson City and Amanda Adkins of Morristown. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 19, between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor the life of Darris Woodby will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, September 20, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Broyles officiating. The graveside service and committal will follow the service on Monday in the Lyons Chapel Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles Smith, Dillard Richmond, Keith Carr, Joe Carrier, Brandon Collins, Chris Shupe and Brian Hoilman. Special honorary pallbearer, Jim Bryja; childhood friend, Billy Blevins. Honorary pallbearers include all employees of General Shale, Johnson City, and the plant in Piney Flats, Joe May, Raymond Holtsclaw and Mark Guinn. Those who wish to attend the graveside service will be traveling in procession following the funeral service. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Marbleton Freewill Baptist Church, 1703 Marbleton Road, Unicoi, TN 37692.
