Nearly a dozen artists will take the stage as part of the Slagle Road Arts and Music Festival this week.

With two stages of non-stop music beginning at 2 p.m. and going through 10 p.m. on Saturday, attendees of the festival will have the opportunity to enjoy a full day of music while also milling through all the different art vendors on hand offering original artwork, fiber art, soaps, jewelry, herbs, and much more.

Many Carter Countians remember when music would echo through the hollow during the weekend when artists took the stage weekly at Slagle’s Pasture and enjoyed the annual Bluegrass Festival. Organizers are hoping that this will rebirth those days once again.

“We lived on Slagle Road and we were doing small events with music,” said organizer Carrie Maggard. “People suggested that we go big,  so this year is one day and we are hoping to make it a two-day event in the future.”

In addition to good music and arts, food will be available to purchase through Cascade Draft Dogs, What the Crepe?, and Big Mama’s Cafe while Lickety Split Ice Cream will be passing by during the day in their truck to provide some cooling refreshments for kids of all ages.

“Admission is $10 and we are accepting cash only so we can pay the bands who right now are playing for free,” said Maggard. “We want everyone to bring a lawn chair and a blanket and come out and support locally.”

Maggard added that Riverside Taphouse will also be on hand to provide adult beverages.

The band lineup for the day on the side stage includes:
– 2 p.m.          J Rippy
– 4 p.m.         Christian Fitzgerald
– 6 p.m.         Stephan Baker
– 8 p.m.         Brian Cox

The main stage will also feature the following artists:
– 2:30 p.m.    Big Son
– 4:30 p.m.    Julie Williams Band
– 6:30 p.m.    Some Old Friends
– 8:30 p.m.    7 Mile Mushroom

Stages will be set up at 265 Slagle Road in Elizabethton on the Old Bristol Highway which is only eight minutes from downtown Elizabethton.
