Unaka High School students excel in the classroom as well as outside the school

Multiple students from Unaka High School won awards in the 2021 CTE project competition at the Appalachian Fair.

In the display for Business Technology,  10 students taught by Melissa Loveless won first place with exhibits such as business cards, brochures, infographics, letterheads, etc. while six received second place awards and seven received third place honors.

In the Collision Repair display, teacher Scotty Johnson’s students finished first in all 10 categories with exhibits showing spot repair, stitch welding, plug welding, custom paint, plastic repair and much more.

Among Sandy Anderson’s Health Science students, Tarah Sexton won first place with an anatomy display. Five students were second place finishers, and two students finished in third place.

A group project in the Human Services exhibit received 12 first place ribbons, nine second place ribbons, and three third place ribbons. Individually, the school had two students finish in first place, three individuals as second place winners, and two each finishing with third and fourth place.

Along with the Appalachian Fair exhibits, students in Cody Ayers’ Agriculture class performed very well at an FFA land evaluation event last week. Individually, Teddy Elliot finished in eighth place out of 64 students, while the team itself finished in fourth place out of a total of 19 teams in the district.
