“The East Tennessee Constables Association had a tremendous year,” said President Kent Harris. Thirty-six constables received diplomas after successfully completing 40 hours of training in Morristown. Harris says the training was put together by Chief Training Officer Ken Potter, who also serves as 7th District Constable. The school covered 23 topics such as civil process, active shooter, building search, use of force, domestic violence, child abuse, EVOC, and other topics.
Harris said the instructors, Constable Ken Potter, Sheriff Eddie Tester, and S/A Jerry Stout, were great with the topics.
During the program, 3rd District State Representative Scotty Campbell was given Legislator of the Year Award. President Harris praised Representative Campbell for all that he has done to help improve the constables. “Representative Campbell is an asset to law enforcement,” said Potter.
Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy was given the prestigious award of Sheriff of the Year. Harris said Sheriff Cassidy is respected throughout the state and won the award by unanimous votes of the membership.
Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger also appeared at the graduation ceremonies and gave a great speech to the constables, pledging her support to law enforcement. She also received the ABOVE and BEYOND Award for her work.

Harris said the goal of the East Tennessee Constables Association is to help the men have open communications to help each other. He also said the Association took in nine new members and is already making plans and looking forward to next year.
Potter stated that use of force was covered extensively and is one topic for which you can never receive too much training.
