Cyclone head coach Shawn Witten has been preaching to his team to continue building momentum this week and that message was well received this week as the Cyclones went on the road to Sullivan East Friday night and came back home with a 49-0 win.

Elizabethton built a 42-0 halftime advantage and cruised in the second half to the victory.

Cade Russell got the scoring going for the Cyclones as he plunged into the endzone from the three-yard line and Sean Smithdeal added the point-after attempt to make it 7-0 EHS at 10:53 of the first quarter.

Nate Stephens increased that lead five minutes later when Nate Stephens carried the football across the goal line from the three-yard line as well to make it 14-0 on Smithdeal’s PAT.

Russell tacked on his second score of the night with 1:46 remaining in the opening quarter as he hit pay dirt from the two-yard line. Smithdeal remained perfect and the Cyclones led 21-0.

With time running out in the quarter, Jake Roberts broke free on a 45-yard dash to the endzone and after Smithdeal’s kick, the Cyclones were in full command with a 28-0 lead.

Elizabethton continued to build on that lead in the second quarter as Stephens bolted free on a 44-yard romp and Smithdeal’s PAT made it 35-0 with 9:45 remaining in the half.

Running back Kaleb Holzer got into the act on the next Cyclone possession as Holzer galloped to a 30-yard score. Smithdeal kicked his sixth PAT of the half and the Cyclones were cruising, 42-0, at the intermission.

With the big lead, Witten turned to his backups and the Cyclones got their final score on a Gib Maupin to Dalton Mitchell 23-yard scoring toss with 1:50 remaining to play. Caleb Campbell took care of the point-after to close out the scoring in the contest.

The Cyclones had 454 yards of total offense while East registered 165.

Cyclone quarterback Bryson Rollins finished a perfect 6-of-6 passing for 99 yards while Maupin finished his night with 7-of-10 passing for 73 yards and the scoring toss.

Holzer led the EHS rush attack carrying the ball seven times for 93 yards and the score. Russell finished his night with seven carries for 54 yards and the two scores while Stephens lugged the football three times for 65 yards and two scores.

Mitchell had a solid night receiving hauling in eight catches for 82 yards and a score. Jake Roberts totaled two catches covering 32 yards while Teddy Orton caught two passes for 23 yards.

On defense, Wesley Shankles recorded a sack while JC Andes recovered a fumble for the Cyclones.

Elizabethton plays host to Rhea County next Friday night for Senior Night.
