Elizabethton Kiwanis installs officers for 2021 – 2022

On Tuesday, Sept. 21, the Kiwanis Club of Elizabethton installed its new officers and board members for the new Kiwanis Year which begins October 1. Kentucky-Tennessee Kiwanis Lt. Governor Howard Smith of Johnson City gave congratulations and officer pins to the following: Mitch Broyles, President; Drew LaPorte, President-Elect; Teresa Murray Smith, Vice-President; Logan Tipton, Immediate Past-President; Bill Fryar, Secretary; and Jared Tetrick, Treasurer.
Incoming President, Mitch Broyles, is the first club president in the history of Elizabethton Kiwanis, whose father and grandfather were both club presidents. His father, Tim, was president in 2001 and 2015. His grandfather, Clyde, was president in 1964.
Also recognized as George F. Hixson Fellows for outstanding service to the club and community were: Past-Presidents Richard Barker, Tim Broyles and Kelly Geagley; Past Club Treasurer, Jim Wilson; and Club Secretary, Bill Fryar. Hixson Fellowships are granted by Kiwanis International in honor of the organization’s first president.
The Kiwanis Club of Elizabethton was chartered March 2, 1928, to serve the children of Elizabethton/Carter County. It supports the following service leadership clubs in the Elizabethton and Carter County school systems: Key Clubs at Elizabethton, Happy Valley and Unaka High Schools; Builders Club at T.A. Dugger Junior High School; and K-Kids Clubs at East Side, Harold McCormick and West Side Elementary Schools. Through its primary fund-raising projects including holiday flag displays, Pancake Day, and Chili Supper, it also supports the Head Start Christmas Party, Special Needs Picnic, and Kiwanis Park where it funded the construction of bathroom facilities.
