An on-premises beer permit request and approval for construction to begin on Hampton Watershed Trails will be considered by the Elizabethton City Council on Thursday.

The Friends of the Bonnie Kate have applied for an on-premise beer permit for the theater in downtown Elizabethton since the theatre doesn’t qualify under the city’s current beer ordinance. Currently, events held at the theater are covered under a special event beer permit granted by the beverage board or under a current on-premise beer permit holder.

In addition, council members will be asked to vote on the contract and approval to begin phase one of the Hampton Watershed Trails.

“The Carter County Commission actually approved the funding for phase one recently,” said Mike Mains, Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Director. “So at that point, we began to look into the qualifications for builders. After that was done, Contour Trail Design and Randy Conner were chosen, and all that is left to do is for the council to vote on the matter.”

While the Watershed Trails are in Hampton, the City of Elizabethton currently owns 238 acres of land in the construction site. The project will add another 2.7 miles to the existing 3.75 miles of trails.

The council meets at 6 pm. Thursday at Elizabethton City Hall.
