Cyclone boys, girls have a top-five finish in TRC cross country championship

The Elizabethton Cross Country team played host to the 2021 Three Rivers Conference Cross Country Championship Tuesday at Doe River Gorge in Hampton.

By the time both teams completed the course, the Cyclone boys secured a third-place finish while the Cyclone girls brought home a fourth-place finish.

Riley Vernon led the pack for the Cyclones as he finished in third place with a time of 18:32.20. Max Garner was on Vernon’s heels as Garner clocked a time of 18:33.60 to claim the fourth-place spot.

Brian Presley was the next Cyclone to cross in a finishing time of 19:39.10 to claim 10th while Cooper Chinault’s run of 20:09.0 was good enough for an 18th place finish.

Cooper Jack finished out the Cyclone five-man scoring when he crossed in 23:11.10 for a 32nd place finish to give ‘Betsy a score of 63 points.

Volunteer High finished in first place with a score of 35 while Sullivan East came in second with a team score of 47.

Isaac Norris (35th, 23:29.30), Jonah Hall (44th, 26:28.40), and Dylan Hughes (46th, 30:25.00) closed out the afternoon for the Cyclone boys squad.

Also in boy’s action, Cloudland’s David Campbell finished 43rd with a time of 26:19.00 while teammate Jonah Tomberlin was 48th with a time of 31:21.60.

There were 48 boys running in the event.

Reaghan Curde was the top Lady Cyclone on the course as she crossed the finished line in 8th place with a time of 24:51.60. Lindy Simerly was 11th as she ran a course time of 25:29.80.

Grace Artz captured 13th with a time of 25:49.80 while Caitlin Darling’s 26:42.60 was good for 16th place.

Brenann Vance was right behind Artz in 17th place with a time of 26:49.00 to help make up the Lady Cyclones point total of 65 points.

Happy Valley’s Gracyn Carder ran a time of 28:50.40 to finish in 20th place while her teammate, Juley Nieminski, finished 22nd with a time of 29:29.80.

Cloudland also saw Lady Highlander Korah Slauson finish 28th in a finishing time of 40:03.90.

Tennessee High, Volunteer, and Sullivan East finished in first through third respectively.

There were a total of 31 girls who ran the course.
