AAA.com reports that gas prices across Tennessee continue to show signs of stabilization as prices dropped on average a penny last week.

The average price of gasoline is now $3.15 which is nearly 15 cents more expensive than one month ago and $1.29 more than one year ago.

“Not everybody loves changing their household clocks for the end of Daylight Saving Time,” said Megan Cooper, spokeswoman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “But shorter days could lead to lower demand for gas.

“Drivers may head straight home from work to avoid the darkness rather than tack on side trips for shopping or errands.”

With the decrease, Tennessee now ranks as the ninth least expensive market in the country.

Prices at the pump nationwide continue to inch upward as gas prices rose two cents on the week as the average gas price was $3.42.

The last time gas prices were this high was in September 2014. Prices reflect an increase of 16 cents over October 2021 and $1.31 higher than in 2020.

AAA reports the most expensive metro markets to be in Memphis ($3.18), Morristown ($3.18) and Jackson ($3.17). The three least expensive metro markets include Cleveland ($3.05), Clarksville ($3.11), and Kingsport ($3.14).
