Staff Report
A suspect wanted by the U.S. Marshals fled on foot after a traffic accident in Carter County.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to Greenlee Road on Saturday after a report of an accident involving a truck and a light pole. Once there, deputies were told that the vehicle involved in the accident — a camouflaged Toyota Tundra — was being towed by another truck.
Deputies found the trucks on Cedar Grove Road, where the driver identified himself as Huston Dwayne Hartley. According to reports, Hartley told the deputy his passenger front wheel broke and he struck the light pole. He also told the deputy he was told by an electric company employee that he did not need to stay and make a report.
Upon checking, deputies learned that Hartley had several outstanding charges for driving with a revoked license and was wanted by the U.S. Marshals for escape.
As the deputy tried to put handcuffs on Hartley, he fled on foot through backyards on Cedar Grove toward Milligan Highway.
Once captured, Hartley will face additional charges of leaving the scene, driving while revoked and evading arrest.
