NASHVILLE — Carter County’s legislative delegation is sending a proclamation from the Tennessee General Assembly to three local football teams who are competing in the playoffs in their TSSAA Division 1 semifinals this weekend. The proclamation from Senators Rusty Crowe and Jon Lundberg and Representatives Scotty Campbell and John Holsclaw congratulates the teams on a tremendous season and wishes them all the best in winning their Class playoffs which are set to take place on Friday.
“We are tremendously proud of these players, parents, coaches and schools,” said Sen. Crowe. “To have one school in the playoffs from a county is quite an honor, but to have three — well that is just historic. We congratulate all of them for getting to the playoffs and representing the spirit of Carter Countians in the process. We wish them much success in winning their games.”
Only 12 games are set to play on Friday night, with three of them occurring in Carter County. Cloudland High School will face South Pittsburg in the TSSAA’s Class 1A State Semifinal, Hampton High School will compete against Trousdale County in Class 2A, and Elizabethton High School will play Upperman in Class 4A.
“Having three semifinals here shows just how special this football season is,” added Lundberg. “We just want to show our support and cheer on these fantastic Carter County teams. All of Northeast Tennessee are proud of these teams and appreciate all the hard work done by the players and staff to make this a winning season.”
Rep. Campbell said, “I’m thankful to everyone in Northeast Tennessee for supporting these young men and their schools in a such a big way. The memories they have made this year will last a lifetime. We are all proud of their hard work and celebrate their victories this season.”
“This is a great example of how we can achieve extraordinary things when we all come together,” added Rep. Holsclaw. “Everyone is extremely proud of these teams and we congratulate all of the players on their success this year.”
