The Cyclones boys basketball team went home with another win Tuesday night even though they are still missing half their roster due to the football season running into basketball season.
The Cyclones faced off against the Cosby Eagles, another team that couldn’t handle Elizabethton’s rapid play style.
The Cyclones started the first quarter slow, the Cyclones and Eagles both had a handful of turnovers but also steals, making this quarter a low-scoring one. The Cyclones still managed to take an 11-6 lead, with Seth Carter having seven of those points.
In the second quarter, the Cyclones picked up their pace and played cleaner. The Eagles responded to it well, scoring 26 compared to the Cyclone’s 23 putting the score at the half, 34-32 Elizabethton. The game was close but the Cyclones still had a lead with the help of Kaleb Hambrick putting up nine in the second quarter.
The Cyclones defense was on lock in the third. They also managed to play great offense, putting up 20. The Eagles, looking like a different team from the second quarter as they scored only 12 points to make the score 64-44 at the end of the third.
In the fourth, Elizabethton didn’t push the breaks at all once again dropping 20 on the Eagles. The Eagles were gassed at this point, their offense had no response, only scoring 11. Their defense did not let up and this caused them to put the Cyclones in the bonus and allow an even larger lead.
The Cyclones are 2-0 on the season and will face off against Burton on Thursday.
EHS Scoring: Andrew Barnett (4), Seth Carter (19), Bryce Vanhuss (11), Kaleb Hambrick (14), Zack Bates (2), Will Churchill (3), Mac Paulson (9), Caleb Franklin (12).
