George Marvin Shrader Sr., 80, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at his residence. George was born in Burkes Garden, Va., to the late Charlie Britton Shrader and Myrtle Virginia Burress Shrader. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Freida Shrader; two brothers, Charles Shrader and Bobby Shrader; and two sisters, Martha Robinson and Geraldine Jenkins.
George was a carpenter by trade and retired from Crawford Drywall. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and loved hunting, loved the mountains, carpentry, his dog, Roscoe, watching westerns, singing and music. Most of all he loved his family dearly and his church family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Ruby Faye Hughes Shrader; a daughter, Kim Poe of Elizabethton, Tenn.; his sons, George Shrader Jr. and wife Carolyn of Elizabethton and Mitchell Lincoln of Hampton, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Britton Babb, Austin Babb (fiancée Brittany), Jared Shrader, Lindsey Gilbert (Luke), Christopher Lincoln and Megan Vaught (Caleb); two sisters, Linda Kidwell and Betty Huff, both of Maryland; and his great-grandchildren, Kamonie Babb, Katelynn Whitaker, Hailey Gilbert and Elsie Vaught. Many nieces, nephews and other close family members also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of George Marvin Shrader Sr. will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, December 10, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Dale Greenwell and Pastor Mark Gerard officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12 until 1 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Hughes Cemetery in the Cove Creek Community of Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be Britton, Jared, Austin, Luke and others selected from family and friends. The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice, especially Megan and Sarah for their excellent care. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Harvest Baptist Church, 309 East F Street, Elizabethton, Tenn., in loving memory of George.
