Choosing her home county to launch her campaign for circuit court judge, attorney Lois Shults Davis said that she would assure equal justice for families and individuals in the 1st Judicial District, Part II at the Clinchfield Caboose at the Hopson Buffalo Pavilion in Unicoi. The veteran lawyer said she has seen the devastating impact of disputes that deeply damaged families due to divorce, child custody, and property disputes. The conservative Republican will be on the ballot on the May 3rd Republican Primary.
“I’ve helped families struggle with emotional disputes involving divorce, child custody, and issues related to opioid addiction for more than two decades,” says Shults Davis. “I stand for fairness and the equal rights of all who will appear before me because in today’s world fairness truly matters.” The 1st Judicial District encompasses Carter, Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington counties.
Raised in Carter County, Shults Davis graduated from East Tennessee State University, worked as a law clerk at a Knoxville law firm while attending the University of Tennessee Law School. Upon graduation, she helped form a law firm in Erwin and raised a family that saw two sons become lawyers and one become a farmer who also works at BWXT in Erwin. “It’s important to grow up among the people of rural communities to understand their struggles. I know and love my county and the 1st Judicial District and would be honored to serve families here as their Circuit Court Judge,” she says.
Along the way, she gave back to young men and women at Unicoi County High School by sponsoring a Mock Trial team that grows skills students can use in their own careers, in or out of the legal profession. “It is important that we give back to our community and I’m proud of the achievements of many of the students that have been part of the Mock Trial team,” Lois explains. Her husband, Mike Davis, was a long-time teacher and supported her efforts to engender the success of students here.
“I want to invest my energy now on assuring the success of families and businesses here through fair judgments and equitable justice so that those who come before my court can rebuild their lives in the best way possible,” Lois concludes. “I will be asking for your help in my campaign and for your vote in May 2022.”
