FROM STAFF REPORTS
Whenever the Elizabethton Cyclones and Johnson County Longhorns get together on the hardwood, one can always count on getting their money’s worth.
The same held true Tuesday when the Cyclones made the trip around Watauga Lake up to Mountain City for a non-conference showdown with Coach Austin Atwood’s ‘Horns team taking a road win by a score of 61-50.
Behind 13 points from senior guard Jake Roberts, the Cyclones built a 27-16 advantage by intermission. Seth Carter lent a hand in building the lead scoring five points in the first 16 minutes.
Zack Parsons scored seven points and Preston Greer painted the cotton for five points to make sure that the Longhorns stayed within range of the Cyclones.
Both teams played dead even in the second half putting up 34 points each in the final half of play.
Roberts had a game-high 22 points to lead all scorers. Carter and Bryson Rollins finished in double figures with 12 and 10 respectively for the Cyclones.
Connor Simcox came on in the second half for Atwood’s squad scoring 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half. Greer ended in double figures as well with 14 points on the night.
