As the longtime chairman of Keep Carter County Beautiful steps down, the board will select a new leader on Thursday.

Ed Jordan, who won Keep Tennessee Beautiful’s highest award in April 2021, announced in November 2021 that he would step down as chairman of the local organization.

“But that does not mean that I will not be around,” he said at the time. “I will continue to be involved and to help the new chairman in any way that I possibly can.”

In addition to electing officers, the board will review upcoming events, including cleanups of Milligan Highway, Blevins Road in Elizabethton and the embankment on the road connected to the Watauga River where vehicle tires are dumped regularly. The group will partner with Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful in a cleanup of Watauga Lake in Hampton in February.

The Keep Carter County Beautiful Board meets at noon Thursday inside the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce. The public is welcome to attend.
