After having their Friday night contest snowed out, the Hampton Bulldogs boarded the bus and made the trip to Greeneville to take on non-conference foe Chuckey Doak for a Saturday evening marquee match-up.
The ‘Dogs opened up the first half by seizing a 44-30 lead and had to fend off the Black Knights down the stretch in the second half to take an 80-72 victory.
Morgan Lyons put his team out front in the first 16 minutes by scoring 10 points. Logan Whitehead chipped in with eight points in the opening half while Conor Burleson and Hayden Campbell added seven and six points respectively.
The Black Knights Hayden Anderson matched Lyons output with 10 points in the first half while teammate Christopher Derry added eight.
Both teams came out of the locker room finding offensive success as they played even basketball scoring 17 points each in the third quarter.
Knowing they had their work cut out for them with only eight minutes left to play, the Black Knights weren’t about to lay down and quit as they made a hard charge to the front outscoring Hampton 25-19 but coming up on the short end of the stick.
Nine players found the scoring ledger for the Bulldogs led by Lyons with a game-high 19 points. Campbell playing big in the post position added double-figure scoring with 14 points.
Burleson and Dalton Holtsclaw closed out the game with nine points each while Whitehead and Michael Harrison contributed eight points apiece.
Harrison led on the glass by pulling down seven rebounds while adding eight assists, five steals, and one blocked shot. Hampton guard Isaiah McCoury dished out seven assists and added four steals. Holtsclaw also had a well-rounded contest adding one rebound, handing out six assists, and picking the Black Knight pockets for five steals.
The Black Knights were paced by Cadin Tullock with a team-high 17 points. Anderson finished his night with 16 points while Derry and Isaiah Treadway finished with 15 and 10 respectively.
