On Friday, January 7, 2022, our precious and beloved brother, David Glenn Hicks, went home to join his parents from his residence at the age of 52. David was born to the late Johnnie Allen Hicks and Eula Marie Potter Hicks on March 7, 1969 in Dearborn, Mich. Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by an infant son, Jonathan David Bennett Hicks.
Always a smile on his face, David never met a stranger. He always shared a kind word and help of any kind that he could offer. David graduated with the Hampton High School Class of 1987. While in school, David exceled at tennis and baseball. David was a hard worker, a trait he learned from his parents. He had worked for the City of Elizabethton and at several odd jobs before becoming disabled.
Church was a big part of David’s life from a young age and he grew up attending Stone Mountain Baptist Church with his family as they lived just down the road. He will be remembered for his bright smile and his wonderful sense of humor, but moreover for being a loyal and devoted brother, son, father and friend. David’s favorite pastime was softball and basketball and he was always cheering for his number one team, the North Carolina Tar Heels.
David leaves behind his beloved daughter that he cherished more than life, Kerrianne Renee Hicks; three brothers, Bobby Hicks, Lonnie Hicks and Marty Hicks; his two sisters, Kathy (Lawrence) Sharkey and Lisa Hicks; his best friend, Anita; and his furbaby, Zeus. Many friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles also remain.
David’s homegoing celebration will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 14, in the Stone Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Nathan Jennings officiating. Active pallbearers will be chosen from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 10 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family requests that those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton to help with expenses.
