Shirley Faye Long, 84, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 8, 2022, from her residence. Shirley was born in Canebreak, W.Va., to the late George Washington Stout and Lucy Alice Oaks Stout. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Holsclaw; her second husband, Roy Clyde Long; and her brothers and sisters, Myrtle, Hilda, Clyde, Dewey, Carl, Pauline, George, Dorothy, Frankie, Arthur, JoAnn, Sonny and Leland.
Shirley was a homemaker and loved her children dearly; she also loved her church, music and singing. She had actually sang with Southern Harmony. Shirley had a strong work ethic and had held several jobs and in each one, she gave her all. She had worked at furniture manufacturing, Magnavox and in the kitchen at Hampton Elementary School. Shirley was an excellent cook and loved baking cakes and treats.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jimmy Holsclaw, Danny Holsclaw, Angela Ward, Christopher Holsclaw, Crystal Aleman and Regina Crowder; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Christine and Faye. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A celebration of life for Shirley Faye Long will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 13, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Willie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 14, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Holsclaw, Josh Holsclaw, Austin Young, Stephen Acuna, Ariel Aleman, Kenny Crowder, John Chase and Steve Nelson. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 2 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone that has shown their love through cards, gifts and prayers for the family.
