Happy Valley teams fall to South Greene in conference action

GREENEVILLE- The Rebels of South Greene hosted the Happy Valley Warriors in conference play on Tuesday night. An early January clash that could really help set the tone for the teams as they head into the meat and bones of the season, both schools looked for a win.
South Greene took down both victories on the day in drastically different match-ups.
A back and forth first quarter got the game started for the girls as Scarlett Zeoli got the scoring going for the Warriors. Kenzie Ramey would tack on five of her game-high 16 points in the quarter.
Marciada Moore grabbed a basket as South Greene continued to keep pace with their scoring. Kadie Bailey scored four points before the end of the first to give Happy Valley the lead.
In the second, the Happy Valley offense struggled to get points on the board as they couldn’t get a rhythm. Ramey continued her high-octane play with seven points on the quarter.
The ball movement was excellent from the Warriors, but the shots weren’t falling. The Rebels, however, also struggled and the Warriors led 22-21 at the half.
The third quarter kicked off with South Greene finding their groove. An and-one from Zeoli slowed the pace of the Rebels a little bit, but the dominance was basically unstoppable in the quarter.
Happy Valley continued to struggle as they only mustered nine points in the quarter and trailed, 46-31 heading to the last period of action.
The fourth quarter would continue in the same pattern with South Greene continuing to keep their gap. Five points from Holly Moore in the quarter just wasn’t enough as the Warriors fell by a final of 59-43.
The boy’s game featured a depleted Warrior lineup taking on a full-strength Rebels side. Despite their best efforts, the Warriors were just too overwhelmed.
The first quarter was a difficult one for the Warriors as they couldn’t buy a basket. Good ball movement was unfortunately met with missed shots.
A pair of threes from Austin Nickles and Cole Deakins were the sole points for Happy Valley as the Rebels found all sorts of success and led 16-6 after one.
In the second, much of the same continued. The Rebels repeatedly turned over the Warriors who couldn’t seem to stop them. Baskets from Dakota Grindstaff, Donovan Maxwell, and Joey Sowards attempted to keep Happy Valley in the game, but the South Greene side was on a tear leading 41-13 at the half.
The third and fourth quarters were an extension of the previous as the Rebels continued to roll. The South Greene offense couldn’t miss pouring shot after shot while the Warrior’s usual suspects found a basket only every once in a while.
Hunter Moody would add a basket in the fourth but the damage was far too out of control. The Rebels would defeat the Warriors by a final of 81-30.
