Shirley Slagle Tweed, 56, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center. Shirley was born in Rogersville, Tenn., to the late Dr. David Slagle and Amy LaVonn Wandell Slagle. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Tweed; a brother, John David Slagle; and a step-daughter, Valerie Tweed.
Shirley retired due to a disability and was a member of Experience of Pentecost Church. She loved spending time with friends and her family, going to church, swimming, walking and eating out.
Those left to cherish Shirley’s memory include her sister, Lisa Slagle of Hampton; her twin sister, Thelma Swanson and husband Greg of Elizabethton; four step-daughters, Donna Payne, Cynthia Honeycutt, Vivian Pierce and Patricia Silvers; nine step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and her special friends, Sabrina Gilliam, Lydia Honeycutt, Cindy Smith and Robbin. Several cousins and her church family also survive.
A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 17, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Chris McCoury and Pastor Charlie McKinney officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sabrina Gilliam. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 1:30 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Kidney Foundation.
