Cagney Bennett recently was crowned Ultimate International Miss Teen Tennessee and will advance to the national competition.
The Elizabethton student also won the fitness and casual wear categories in the Miss Teen category.
Bennett said the pageant seeks to help young women become the best version of themselves while helping others.
“I saw the new system as a way to get back into pageantry,” Bennett said.
The pageant spanned two days and Bennett competed in cover model, fitness wear, casual wear, ultimate fashion, and gown.
Bennett said pageant competition presents mental and physical challenges.
“You have to memorize your bio, which is a resume that includes all your information. They’ll ask you questions based on it so you have to know what you’re talking about,”  Bennett said.
The Elizabethton student practices for her performance beforehand, doing things such as practicing her walk and answering mock interview questions.
“My mom and coach have been such big supporters, I’m so thankful for them,” Bennett said.
She also values the experiences she has during the pageants. “You just meet a lot of new people, it becomes a sisterhood. I met my best friend through doing pageants,” she said. “Being in pageants has done so much to change my life. I’ve realized how important it is to give back to my community.”
