Coach Lucas Honeycutt’s Elizabethton Cyclones were looking to pick up a key Upper Lakes Conference win over the visiting Volunteer Falcons at John Treadway Gym.
The only problem was that the Falcons were systematic in their offense and every time the Cyclones attempted to make a run, the Falcons had a way of pushing back to keep enough of a lead leading to a 64-50 win for Coach Mike Poe’s Falcons.
Seizing a close 15-11 lead after one, the Falcons put more separation between them and the Cyclones in the second by outscoring the home-standing Cyclones 19-10 to take a 34-21 lead at the break.
Jake Roberts five points led the way for Elizabethton in the half while Nicholas Wilson contributed four. Seven Cyclones scored in the first 16 minutes of play.
The second half was deja vu for the Cyclones as no matter how hard they battled to get back into the contest the Falcons had an answer to keep at least a 13-point difference between the two teams.
Three Cyclones reached double figures in the contest as 10 points each were logged by Roberts, Bryson Rollins, and Wilson. Nate Stephens and Kaleb Hambrick each chipped in with five points in the contest.
Garrison Barrett scored a game-high 14 points to lead Volunteer. Bradin Minton tossed in 13 while Jon Lovelace reached double figures with 10 in the win.
