Kenneth James Leonard, 73, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his family. He lost his battle with COPD.
Kenneth was born September 29, 1948, in Carter County to the late James Robert and Hildra Potter Leonard. He was a retired machine operator with the Budd Company and a member of the UAW #2155. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith.
Kenneth loved spending time with his family and reading his Bible.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, G.W. Grindstaff.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Dede Richardson Leonard; one daughter, Emily Yevette Grindstaff, of the home; his granddaughter, Sierra Buckles (Caleb); two great-grandchildren, Avery and Peyton Buckles; a brother, Terry Leonard (Sherry); two nieces, Angel Cordell and Bonnie Jo Yates; his father and mother-in-law, Herman and Erma Richardson; several brothers and sisters-in-law; his special friends, John Rainbolt, Charles Dyer, Dennis Grindstaff and Jerry Hoss, and his co-workers of the Budd Company.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Bristol Regional Hospital, Hillview Rehab, Dr. James Shipley, Dr. Siv, Caring Hearts, The Respiratory Doctors and Amedisys Home Health & Hospice.
It was his wish to be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial Funeral Chapel is serving the Leonard family.
