Ax-wielding woman charged with burglary, aggravated assault

What began as a burglary call on Tuesday ended with an Elizabethton woman being arrested for assaulting family members and threatening them with an ax.
Nevada Salina Jade Fortson, 25, was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, resisting arrest and violating an order of protection.
The arrest came after officers responded to 276 Short Coal Chute Road in reference to a burglary in process.
Doug Fortson, the suspect’s father, told deputies he was asleep when he heard something in the hallway and upon checking found his daughter wielding an ax and threatening him. Forston told deputies his daughter struck him approximately three times before he was able to gain control of the ax and remove it from her hands.
Deputy Robert Scott noted that Fortson and Glenn Hayes, the homeowner and the woman’s grandfather, had visible injuries. Fortson had multiple lacerations on his right arm and Hayes had swelling and bruising to his right eye. Photographs of both men’s injuries were taken at the scene.
Two other subjects also were questioned. Christopher Price, the driver of the small white vehicle in the driveway of the home, and Daniel Fleenor, a passenger were detained, by Carter County Sheriff’s Department Staff Sergeant Michael Malone and Deputy Cory Locklear who arrived to assist.
Both detained men said that Nevada Fortson had come to Fleenor’s home at 126 Sneed Hill Road and asked for a ride to the Short Coal Chute Road location.
After arriving at Hayes home, Ms. Fortson exited the vehicle and began screaming, and ran into the pasture beside the home. They told the officers they had waited for the suspect to return and when she didn’t, they decided to leave. The deputy stopped the vehicle as it was leaving the scene.
