Cyclones double up with wins over Tennessee High

BRISTOL- Viking Hall was the setting for a conference clash between the hosts Tennessee High and their visitors Elizabethton.
Both the boy’s and girl’s teams were looking for a win to keep momentum in their corner. Besides a pair of close quarters, the Cyclones dominated in both affairs taking both victories back home to Elizabethton.
In the girl’s game, five quick points from Renna Lane put the Cyclones in the lead and they would never look back. Lane, who finished with 10 points, was just the catalyst of it all. Elizabethton led 11-6 after one quarter.
The second was where the separation really began. Olivia Holly was on fire from downtown connecting on four consecutive threes while sprinkling a long two in the mix as well. Holly finished with a total of six treys on the night and 20 points total.
On the defensive end, Marlee Mathena was a certified fly swatter rejecting more than seven shots through the game. She record four blocks in the second quarter alone and finished up with eight points.
Heading into the half, the Cyclones led by a large margin but they didn’t take their foot off the gas.
The team was led in the second half by Lina Lyons who had 10 points in the third and 19 total in the game. The Vikings simply had no answer as ‘Betsy couldn’t miss a shot.
Elizabethton closed out the game in the fourth as they would milk out the rest of the clock and secure the win by a final of 64-25. Also contributing for the Cyclones on the night were Maddie Fowler (2), Katie Lee (2), and Reiley Whitson (halftime buzzer-beater three).
The boy’s game held closer for longer than the girls with the Cyclones actually playing from behind against the Vikings for a quarter and a half.
The two teams battled back and forth in the first with the lead changing a couple of times, but Tennessee High held the upper hand after one.
Nicholas Wilson began to display more of his post dominance in the second quarter with eight of his 14 points. Jake Roberts also had seven of his team-high 21 in the quarter as the Cyclones went ahead with Dalton Mitchell cashing in four points to solidify the lead.
Out of the half, Elizabethton maintained their 12-point lead through the third. Mason Ball’s four points in the quarter kept the gap just far enough.
In the fourth, the Cyclones made all seven of their free throws including two from Bryson Rollins who finished with eight points. Seth Carter added seven points for Elizabethton in the final frame and the Cyclones clinched the win, 64-50.
Also contributing were Nate Stephens (3), Kaleb Hambrick (1), and Dalton Mitchell (6).
