Clinton Sams, 82, Jacksonville, N.C., passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Midwest Medical Center, Galena, Ill.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Carl and Edel Carr Sams. He had lived a number of years in Decatur, Ala.
Clinton was a retired auto worker. He loved to travel, fish and play cards. He was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Trina Coleman and Lorene Sams; three sons, Gary Sams, Warnie “Dean” Jones and Rocky Alexander Jones; and his siblings, Ruby Sams Severin, Garfield Sams, Dallas Sams, Bob Sams and Wilma Sams Schmuhl.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 46-1/2 years, Mary Joines Sams; a son, Alan Sams, Watseka, Ill.; one daughter, Loraine (Bo) Ashcraft, Jacksonville, N.C.; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Sue Ella Marron of Illinois; and several special nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 27, in the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery with his daughter, Loraine Ashcraft, officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, will be Gregory Jones, Jeffrey Jones, Andrew Webb, Bo Ashcraft, Sabrina Jones and Regina Prebel. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
