Jimmy Arthur “Jim” Bishop, 86, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022, at his residence after an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Worley T. and Mary Eliza Jordan Bishop.
Jim served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the Raytheon Corporation. Jim was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 and Jericho Shrine Temple. He was a lifetime member of Friends of Sycamore Shoals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Hardin Bishop, who passed away January 28, 2014.
Survivors include his daughters, Teresa Deal and Lisa Bishop; three grandchildren, Jamie Vandeventer, Lori Vandeventer Seehorn and husband Jed and David Campbell and wife Angela; his great-grandchildren, Kayla Vandeventer, Ben Campbell, Gavin Carico, Camden Carico, Wyatt Campbell, L.J. Seehorn and Ruby Seehorn; a brother, Kenneth Bishop and wife Linda of Georgia; several nieces and nephews; also a special sister-in-law, Jean Morgan and Dean Hardin; and his special friends, Michael Barnett and John Ruetz.
There will be a service at the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park, at 3 p.m. Friday, February 4, with Pastor Nathan Jennings officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home from 12 noon until 5 p.m. Thursday. Family will not be present. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Home Health & Hospice, also Dr. Myra Hale and Dr. Lara Kfoury and nurse Pam. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Free Will Baptist Church or the donor’s favorite charity. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 2:20 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to our website, www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
