Investigators with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office believe a dispute over personal property could be the motive that led to a shooting Wednesday in Roan Mountain.
At approximately 8:11 p.m. Wednesday deputies were called to the Valero located on 19-E in Roan Mountain where they found 49-year-old Jeffrey McMahan in a car with multiple gunshot wounds. McMahan was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center by EMS where he remains in critical condition.
As a result of the shooting, investigators are searching for 40-year-old Eric Lee Thompson, who is wanted for a charge of attempted first-degree murder. Thompson is being actively sought by CCSO deputies.
Investigators developed information that the shooting may have taken place at Thompson’s residence on Shell Creek Road. A search warrant was obtained and executed early Thursday morning discovering evidence that indicated the shooting had taken place there.
This continues to be a developing story and updates will be provided when received.
