The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones were looking to spin some magic in the District 1-AAA Softball Tournament being played at Sullivan East needing to win two games to take the title.

However, a slow offensive start and questionable calls led to a 7-0 hole to the Tennessee High Lady Vikings after three innings and eventually dropped a 10-inning affair by the score of 11-7.

The loss forces the Cyclones to hit the road in the regions as they will travel to Greeneville on Monday while Tennessee High will host Cocke County.

The Cyclones put on a frenzied rally in the top of the fourth to erase the once seven-run lead held by Tennessee High. The game remained tied for the next five innings with the final three being played by international rules with a runner placed on second base to begin each half inning.

Lady Viking freshman Macie Strouth put the game on ice for her team in the bottom of the team with the bases juiced full of Tennessee High base runners. Strouth launched a grand slam to end the game.

The Lady Cyclones were their own worse enemy as they committed five errors in the contest while outhitting the Lady Vikings 13-12 in the ball game.

Elizabethton head coach Ken Hardin elected to go with Maddie O’Quinn to start the game in the pitching circle with Johnson University signee Madisun Pritchard put at the hot spot – third base.

O’Quinn was relieved by freshman Lilly McDuffie in the fourth and McDuffie covered the final six innings of play.

Abby Haga also hit a solo homer in the game in the third inning for Tennessee High.

Mollie Johnson led the Lady Cyclones with three hits on the day including a triple and two singles as the catcher picked up an RBI and scored a run. Kenidy Harris and Ember Jensen added two hits apiece with Harris banging out a double.

Strouth, Haga, Ashley Worley, Lily Ware, and Rylee Fields led the winning Lady Vikings with two base knocks each.
