The Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County recently held their annual Steak & Burger fundraiser at the Club’s location on Hudson Drive with special entertainment by Stemwinder, and keynote, author, motivational speaker and former NFL Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons, Mike Smith.
Smith challenged young people to look forward and focused on the Club’s role in building leaders for the future. He used the “7 C’s to build a winning team in business, sports and life,” a takeaway from his book, “You Win In The Locker Room First,” to illustrate how strong leaders develop.

Following Smith’s presentation, Club kids did a “cardboard testimony” with handwritten posters indicating their individual challenges, then flipping them over to show more writing on the back about how their lives have changed because of their involvement with the Elizabethton Club.
The event was emceed by Josh Smith of WJHL-TV.

Steak & Burger is the Club’s major fundraiser for the year, with contributions and pledges to be used to further the Club’s work with local children and teens. To illustrate that children always come first at the Club, at this dinner, adults are given burgers, while all the Club kids in attendance are treated to a steak.
The Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County serves more than 500 children and youth each year. The Club is committed to promoting safe, positive and inclusive environments for all to help kids become their best selves on their paths to great futures.

The Club’s focus is on six key areas: Creating a safe place, providing caring mentorship, meeting youth mental health needs, bridging the workforce readiness gap, championing diversity, equity and inclusion and ensuring that the Club’s advocacy elevates issues impacting youth.

The Club’s goal is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
