Irene Shirley Miller, 84, died at Mountainbrook Assisted Living, Sevierville, Tenn., on June 7, 2022. She was born and raised in London, England and was a member of the Church of England. She moved to America when she married the love of her life.
Irene was a homemaker until her children were in high school. Then, she went to work as a medical transcriptionist before retiring. She was devoted to God and served Jesus by serving others. She was always generous with time and money and often said God gave to her so she could give to someone else.
Throughout her life she volunteered with many organizations. She was particularly proud of her time as president of the Rugby Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire. In her downtime, she loved to knit, read her Bible, do jigsaw puzzles, and watch Jeopardy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Rose Ward, and all of her siblings but one remaining brother. She was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Emily Maples.
Irene is survived by her husband of 61 years, Shirrell Miller; son, Gary and wife Kim; daughter, Lois; grandson, Joshua Maples and wife Ana; granddaughter, Sarah Henry; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Matthew, Isaac, Lily and Olivia; brother, Ron and wife Jean Ward of London, England; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Shirley, Norma, Richard and Vera (who was her closest and dearest friend), Deb and Jim and Peggy and Paul; and several nieces and nephews.
Shirrell, Gary, and Lois offer a special thanks to all the caregivers at Mountainbrook Assisted Living for their tender care of Mom for the five years she lived there.
