Downtown Elizabethton will be sprinkled with holiday spirit this week as businesses partake in the annual Christmas in July event hosted by Main Street Elizabethton.
From Monday to Saturday, 22 participating businesses will be offering special deals, sales, giveaways, and more.
“We’re giving away door prizes and refreshments, and we’re going to have a lot of Christmas decor starting from 25 cents and up. We’ll have a lot of sales, 20 to 80 percent off,” said Jane Mullins, owner of The Peddler’s Cart Antiques & More. Mullins participates in Christmas in July all month long but will have special sales for the downtown event.
Rita Russell, the owner of Simple Blessings, plans on having some Christmas activities geared toward children and plenty of deals for the upcoming tax-free weekend. “We’ve got a lot of sales going on, and we’re going to up our clearance to reduce those prices even more. We’re going to add more of our regular priced items for the tax-free weekend so it’ll help people with their back-to-school shopping,” she said.
Further downtown, Kim Ward, owner of Kim’s Coffee & Espresso, will be featuring plenty of limited-edition holiday drinks. “I’m going to feature our holiday drinks like our cocoacinno, which is a blend of coffee and hot chocolate with different flavorings,” said Ward. She will also be promoting flavors such as pumpkin spice, eggnog, and gingerbread. “I think it’s fun to celebrate Christmas in July,” Ward said, adding she welcomes “anything to bring more attention to downtown.”
Simply Elegant Catering & Baked Goods shares a building with Kim’s Coffee & Espresso and also will be participating in the holiday festivities. “We’re going to do a buy-one-get-one on our single serving desserts. Cookies, cake pops, slices of cake, cheesecake, cake bombs, specialty breads … a whole bunch of different varieties,” says Barnes. “I think it’ll be a great draw to get people downtown to start a little bit of pre-Christmas shopping. There are some great shops down here for gifts.”
Downtown Elizabethton’s Christmas in July event will last all week long and everybody is invited to join in on the festivities to support local businesses.
