• Saturday, August 13
A Celebration of Life service for Erik Anderson, who passed away on August 4, will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. at Anderson Community Park (behind the post office) in Roan Mountain. Erik played an essential role in the development of the Roan Mountain Community Park. The Celebration will begin at 2 p.m. followed by a pot luck and sharing of memories at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
The Billy Crawford Blues Band will be performing at the Roan Mountain Summer Concert Series from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson Community Park (behind the post office) in Roan Mountain. The Roan is thrilled to welcome the return of Billy Crawford. We Got The Blues Baby. Take the lyrics of Muddy Waters, the soul of B.B. King and the wailing sounds of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Roll them all together and you’ve got the amazing sounds of Blues Master Billy Crawford and his Blues Band. Get out those cheap sunglasses, pack a picnic, spread a blanket or bring a lawnchair, and please come on up and enjoy an evening on the Roan.
The Annual Trivett Family Reunion will be held at the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church picnic area, located on Riverview Drive, next to the river. The reunion will begin at noon and lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Family and friends are invited and asked to bring covered dishes, drinks and desserts to share. Table covers, plates, napkins and eating utensils will be provided. Please come join relatives and friends for lunch, fun and games. For more information, call (423) 543-2910.
The Smith, Price, White Family Reunion will be held at the Hampton Christian Church Fellowship Hall at 810 Deerfield Lane, Hampton. It will start at noon and go on until 4 p.m. We will eat at 1 p.m. Please bring a covered dish and dessert. Please bring a gift for bingo. We will also play horseshoes and award trophies for 1st and 2nd place. • Saturday, August 20
According to State-Certified Instructor Ken Potter, a state-certified non-lethal weapons class will be taught starting at 8:30 a.m. The class will be held at 135 Keenburg Road in Elizabethton and will cover chemical spray, expandable baton, handcuffing, and taser. Applicants may take all programs or choose the ones they want. Potter said this course will cover training for security officers to carry these non-lethal weapons. Church groups may attend to obtain certificates of completion. All applicants must be 18 years of age or older to attend.
