On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Elk Avenue Bridge entertainment area overlooking the beautiful covered bridge will be the site of the Miss and Mr. Covered Bridge Days Pageant.
The pageant is directed by Amy Simmons, reigning “World’s Classic Ms. United States Tourism,” and is sponsored by the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department.
“I am looking forward to directing this exciting pageant while representing our community,” Simmons said. “This pageant system is based on promoting tourism, and what a perfect venue to represent our city and state on a national level.”
Simmons added that the Miss & Mr. Covered Bridge Days is a fun event that involves all ages within the community, while, at the same time, helping celebrate the annual Elizabethton Covered Bridge Days.
“We have included age divisions for everyone, boys and girls, and we love seeing babies, children, teens and even grandparents participating in the fun,” she said. “This pageant will produce incredible representatives for this annual festival. Let’s bring attention to Covered Bridge Days through this special annual pageant the Miss & Mr. Covered Bridge Days!”
The theme is “fall,” and any outfit, dress, gown, costume – casual or formal – that reflects fall colors are acceptable, so feel free to be creative, Simmons said. “The pageant is basic walk and show off that outfit, which makes it great for all ages,” she added.
Registration is from 10-10:45 a.m., with an entry fee of $15. Every contestant will receive a participation certificate and winners a crown and sash.
There will be six queens and six kings crowned, one in each age division as follows:

  2. Ages 3-5
  3. Ages 6-10
  4. Ages 11-15
  5. Ages 16-20
  6. Age 21 and up
Judges, pageant staff and assistants will be made up of local and national title holders and community business owners.
