WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Betty Jean Campbell Kyte, 90, fell asleep in the arms of Christ Jesus her Lord and Savior on September 13, 2022. She was born on August 9, 1932 in Elizabethton, Tenn., and moved to Williamsburg, Va., in 1955 where she stayed.
Betty was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church and she continued to worship there until recent months. She retired from York County Public Schools where she served for many years as a kindergarten aid at Magruder and Waller Mill Schools. Betty’s passion in life was raising her five children as Christians and, along with her husband, providing a stable, loving family home. Later, grandchildren became another passion. Betty was always there to assist with taking her grandchildren to school, Fife & Drum practice, having “cousin sleepovers,” singing old-time songs, and preparing holiday meals.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Kyte; parents, Taft and Grace Bradshaw Campbell; sisters, Mary Evelyn Taylor, Georgia Berry and Carolyn Richards; brothers, Bruce Campbell and Bobby Campbell; grandson, Adam Kyte; and daughter-in-law, Philippia “Happy” Hull Kyte.
Betty leaves behind siblings, Bo, Paul, Peggy Richardson, Harold and Darrell Ann Fair; children, Greg Kyte (Debbi), John Kyte (Kathy), Rusty Kyte, Karen Helderman (Mike) and Jason Kyte (Amber); grandchildren, Ben Kyte, Spenser Kyte, Trevor Helderman (Jennifer), Harrison Kyte, Daniel Helderman, Jessica Horne and Nathan Horne; great-grandchildren, Evie, Shannun and Levi; and a special sister-in-law, Judy Campbell.
A private service will be held at Williamsburg Memorial Park. Please make donations in lieu of flowers to Hospice House of Williamsburg and Grace Baptist Church. Online condolences may be shared at www.nelsenwilliamsburg.com.
