Elizabethton Electric warns of scam

The Elizabethton Electric Department warns customers of a scam attempt by phone calls. An EED official said someone is falsely claiming to be from the electric department and is falsely using or spoofing the 542-1111 telephone number on caller IDs.
The person is claiming the customer has overpaid and banking information is needed to give the customer a refund.
The EED official said the electric department will never call you requesting any of your personal or banking information.
