Elizabethton native Bryson Rollins continues to amass great numbers as the starting quarterback in his first year at Maryville College.
After leading the Elizabethton Cyclones to back-to-back state championships in 2019-2020 and a runner-up finish in 2021, Rollins took over quarterback play for the Maryville Scots.
On Oct. 1, Maryville traveled to Montgomery, Alabama, to take on Huntingdon Hawks, the USA South defending champion and this year’s pick to repeat that finish. Maryville lost the contest 42-28 after leading 28-14 at halftime. The Hawks out-gained Maryville 367 yards to 347 yards and held a narrow 30:13 to 29:47 time of possession edge. But 283 of Maryville’s yards and all 28 points came in the first half.
Rollins threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns but had four interceptions and completed just 16 of 42 attempts. He was Maryville’s leading rusher with 44 yards on 16 carries and also scored a rushing touchdown.
In four games, Rollins has a passer rating of 138.15 and has completed 73 of 129 attempts for 962 yards with one interception. He is second on the team in rushing with 177 yards on 54 attempts.
Maryville currently has a 1-4 overall record and 1-1 in the USA South. The team travels to LaGrange, Georgia, Saturday, Oct. 8, to take on the LaGrange Panthers with kickoff at 1 p.m.
Maryville’s next home game is Oct. 22 for Homecoming against North Carolina Wesleyan. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
