Carter County Drug Prevention and Elizabethton and Carter County Law Enforcement will host its Bi-annual Drug Take Back event with locations around Carter County on October 29th, 2022, from 10:00 to 2:00 p.m. The City of Elizabethton Parks and Recreation at 300 West Mill Street, Elizabethton, will be the host of the main event with a second location at Roan Mountain Pharmacy.
Drug Take Back events allow the public to dispose of unwanted medications in safe locations around the country. Spring 2022 allowed Carter County to dispose of 40 pounds of unwanted medications. “Disposing of unneeded medications can help prevent drugs from being misused,” said DEA Administrator Anne Milgram in a press release earlier this year. “Overdose deaths continue to hit tragic record highs. I encourage everyone to dispose of unneeded prescription medications now.”
The event held at the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation will host an alternative pain management fair with organizations such as Appalachian Dharma and Meditation and The Yoga Farm in attendance. The E-sports arena will be open for free play, family games will be offered in the gymnasium, and door prizes and candy will be given out. Carter County Drug Prevention is encouraging all families to come out, wear their best costumes, and spend an afternoon learning about substance misuse, alternative pain management and how to get connected in your community.
