Meals on Wheels is in need of volunteers, especially in the Stoney Creek area.
Pandora Abbott, Site Coordinator Supervisor for First Tennessee Human Resources, said persons can volunteer as little as one day a month, one day a week, or as much as one would like. Meals for routes are typically picked up between 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and that can be worked out with the coordinator for that location. Routes take between an hour to an hour and a half.
Abbott said individuals, businesses, churches, and other organizations are invited to volunteer and help get hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors. “Volunteers are the magic of the program. They not only are making sure the homebound get a meal, but they are often a welfare check to seniors who may not see anyone else daily,” she said.
To volunteer call the First Tennessee Human Resources Office at 423-461-8221 or Abbott’s cell phone at 423-491-0304.
