Keep Carter County Beautiful (KCCB) needs volunteers for Milligan Highway Cleanup. The “No Trash November” cleanup in Carter County will be on Milligan Highway, Saturday, Nov. 12, at 10 a.m. The event is part of a Tennessee Department of Transportation (TOOT) statewide event.
As Tennesseans, we have a lot to be proud of — our music, our barbecue, our beautiful state parks, the distinguished universities, the icons that call it home, and so much more. However, there is one thing we’re not proud of — our litter problem. From the Great Smoky Mountains to the Mississippi River, and every stretch of roadway in between, litter on Tennessee’s 96,167 miles of public roads (4,022 of which are classified as scenic) is more than an eyesore. It’s an enormous burden on the state with impacts on public health and safety, the environment, and the economy.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation is sponsoring a statewide “No Trash November” cleanup. Keep Carter County Beautiful will be participating by removing litter from a 2.5-mile stretch of Milligan Highway in Carter County. Volunteers will meet at the Happy Valley Elementary School Parking Lot at 1840 Milligan Highway at 10 a.m. Those under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign the TOOT Release Form at the event.
Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately and bring water and work gloves. KCCB will provide safety vests, trash bags, and trash grabbers. Bottled water and gloves are provided for those that do not bring them.
This is a TOOT event, and we will follow all TOOT and CDC rules and regulations. Please review the TOOT safety video on our webpage before attending this event.
Volunteers will need to register for this event at our webpage: www.kccbtn.org/events.
