Air Force veteran Bill Kyte, a member of the American Legion Post 49, reads the poem “In Flanders Field” by John McCrae. Which begins “ In Flanders fields the poppies blow. Between the crosses, row on row. A poem written during the first World War, it pays tribute to those who laid down their lives to protect our freedoms.

Elizabethton High School students and members of the community honored veterans with a Veterans Day program on Friday.
The Veterans Day program started at 9:30 a.m.inside the John Treadway Gym at Elizabethton High School. The program was presented by the Elizabethton/Carter County Veterans Service Organizations. Star photographer Larry Souders was there to share this special ceremony.
