Junior Cyclone girls swim team wins championship

The TA Dugger girls swim team won the East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia Middle School Championship meet at the Kingsport Aquatic Center on Saturday.  The afternoon began with a school record-breaking 100 Medley Relay composed of Ell Nekvasil on backstroke, Trinity Hopwood on breaststroke, Holly Holsclaw on the butterfly, and Madelaine Isaacs on freestyle.  They shaved more than a second off of the previous record set just five days before.  Adalynn Reece followed by breaking her own record in the 25 freestyle with a time of 14.86 in a close race that placed her second in the event by just 13 hundredths of a second.  Madelaine Isaacs won both of her individual events, breaking the school record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 30.95 and dropping .92 seconds from her previous best time in the 50 breaststroke.  She was also a member of the record-breaking 200 freestyle relay team that included Nekvasil, Hopwood and Hannah Holsclaw.  TAD girls Alayna Holt, Hannah Holsclaw, Anna Hill and Reece took home the win in the only other relay event in the meet, the 100 Freestyle Relay, with a time less than a second short of the school record.  Other notable swims included personal best efforts by Rylee Parmenter, Aislynn Blanton, Lilly Johnson, Shamiso Tshuma, Izabella Wilber, Bella Shumate, Chloe Rockett, Aislynn Blanton, Wyleigh Steffee, Phoebe Huskins, Lakin Mosier, and Anna Hill.

The TAD boys team of Louis Trivette, Tripp Trivette, Tyler Lunsford, and Atticus Briehl broke their school record in the 100 Freestyle relay by eight-tenths of a second.  Lunsford swam personal best times in each of his individual events that included dropping over three seconds in his 50 backstroke alongside personal best performances in the event by teammates Louis Trivette and Atticus Briehl.

The team will compete one final time for the season in the Middle School Invitational at Virginia High next Saturday, Nov. 19 at 3:30 pm.
