Arson suspect arrested, charged with aggravated assault, arson, animal cruelty

Washington County Sheriff’s Department Deputies have charged Deputies charged Brooks Ellis, 42 of Telford, with Aggravated Assault, Arson and two counts of Animal Cruelty.
According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, Deputies responded to a fully involved barn fire at 207 Rauhof Road in Telford Thursday afternoon.
During the investigation, deputies learned that a female resident at that location had been involved in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend, which led the suspect to set fire to the shared dwelling.  The victim was able to evacuate the building with minor injuries.
Deputies on scene successfully rescued two large dogs that were chained by the barn.
After a short manhunt in the area, the suspect was located on Indian Ridge Road in Johnson City. Ellis is being held under a $60,000 bond, and a preliminary court date is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday in Washington County General Sessions Court.
