New Career Technical Center in the plans for Carter County Schools

Carter County may be implementing a new resource for vocational training for its residents. The proposed institution, named the Career Technical Center, will provide vocational training as an alternative to standard scholastic-based universities and colleges in the Tri-Cities. The new institution would teach courses like cosmetology for those students who are interested in jobs that require specific hands-on certified training.
The Carter County School Board is currently looking at a piece of property near Hampton, although Superintendent Brandon Carpenter has said that no property has been closed on as of yet.
Carpenter described the new prospect as, “a center that is based on a community-connected transformation model,” further describing it as, “a partnership between industry and the school system, which allows the development of a generation of young people with the skill set necessary to succeed in the 21st-century economy.”
Although no development is currently in progress, Carpenter said during the School Board meeting on Thursday, Dec. 8, that they have already received several grants to fund the project and explained his hopes for construction to start soon. “We’re still working a couple kinks out, but we’re real close to closing up on that,” he said, adding, “Hopefully by next week or so, we can get that knocked out.”
Carpenter says if all goes to plan, the new resource will add to Carter County’s growth and economic success, saying, “This will be very beneficial for our area to draw industry and secure a bright future for our children for many years to come.”
